If you have watched something happen in this country and thought “somebody should say this out loud”, you might be the somebody.
What we’re looking for
- Opinion columns of 600 to 1,200 words on governance, corruption, justice, planning and the environment, public money, or the institutions that are supposed to keep all of that in check.
- An argument, not a summary. Tell us what the facts mean and what should happen next.
- Writing in English or Maltese.
The rules
- Link your facts. Every factual claim needs a source: published reporting, a court judgment, an official report, a parliamentary answer. We check them all.
- No allegations of crime that haven’t been made by a court, the police or the Attorney General, or that aren’t a matter of public record. Criticise decisions as hard as you like; don’t play judge.
- Disclose your interests. If you work for, are related to, or are in dispute with anyone you write about, tell us.
- Pen names are possible. Speaking up in a small country has consequences, and we understand why some people can’t do it under their own name. But the editor must know who you are, and we will never publish anonymous attacks on private individuals.
How to pitch
Email [email protected] with a paragraph on your argument and why now, or send the full draft. We reply to every pitch, usually within a week. We edit for clarity, length and legal safety, and you see every change before anything is published.
