Dritt Ġol-Ħajt

Straight into a wall. Opinion & dissent from Malta.

About

Dritt ġol-ħajt is Maltese for “straight into a wall”: what happens when you keep your foot down and your eyes shut. This is an opinion column about the country’s politics, written by people who would like it to brake.

What this is

Dritt Ġol-Ħajt publishes argued opinion on corruption, the rule of law, planning, public money and the way Malta is governed. We are not a newsroom and we do not pretend to be one. The reporting is done by others — often at real cost to themselves — and we link to it at the foot of every column. Our job is to say what it adds up to.

How we write

  • Every factual claim is sourced. Each column ends with a list of the reporting, court records and official documents it rests on.
  • Opinion is labelled as opinion. Everything on this site is.
  • The presumption of innocence applies to everyone, including the people we like least.
  • No party line. We hold whoever is in power to account first, because they have the power. We hold the opposition to account too.
  • Anyone named can reply, and we publish the reply in full. See Corrections & right of reply.

Who pays for it

Nobody. There is no advertising, no sponsorship, no government contract and no party money. There are no trackers on this site either.
